Rapid City Transit is rolling out a more modern rider experience with the introduction of new GILLIG 30-foot clean diesel buses, now entering service on the city’s RapidRide routes.
Unveiled at the Milo Barber Transportation Center, the new buses replace older vehicles while maintaining a similar footprint—but with a noticeably updated look and feel. Inside, riders will find a redesigned interior layout and additional passenger capacity, improving both comfort and efficiency on board.
“These buses are more of a big-city style,” transit officials shared during the event. “They look different from our existing fleet, and the interior layout has been updated as well.”
Two of the new buses are already in service, with a third set to join the fleet soon. The vehicles are part of Rapid City’s fixed-route system, which operates alongside Dial-A-Ride service as part of a broader 27-vehicle fleet serving the community.
For a system that has been connecting riders since the early 1990s, this latest investment reflects a continued focus on modernization—delivering a more comfortable, capable, and contemporary transit experience.
