The Rockford Mass Transit District recently announced that it will purchase five additional hybrid electric buses from Gillig Corp. in Hayward, California, as part of the 2021 Earth Day celebration.
These vehicles are scheduled to go into production later this fall and should arrive in Rockford by early January, 2022. Once delivered, the addition of these five vehicles will bring the total number of reduced emission vehicles to 15, or over 1/3 of the RMTD fleet. RMTD continues to plan for the introduction of full battery electric vehicles along with the necessary charging stations which will also be purchased later this year.
